What about paper and pencil?

Using technology such as laptops and electronic devices does not mean that we never use conventional tools like paper, pens, and print books. There will be times when using these traditional technologies are the most appropriate way of meeting learning goals. However, our goal in allowing students to access our network on their own devices will be to increase their Digital Age Learning skills, giving each student confidence and competence in using technology appropriately in order to assist their learning and development.

What if the ipad breaks and needs to be repaired, or becomes inoperable due to software or hardware failure?

It is the responsibility of the parent and the student to maintain and if necessary pay to have student iPads repaired. We have an IT Department to address any software or manufacturer defects.

What technology will sjls students learn?

Students in Grades K-8 are provided with a robust technology curriculum. Grade-appropriate topics include Digital Media Presentation, Coding, 3D Printing, Robotics, Stop-Motion Video, Green Screen Technology, Video Production, and learning current presentation tools. We believe in technology supporting the curriculum, not driving it. All technology meets grade-level curriculum standards.

Will St. John’s provide Internet filtering?

Students who connect to the Internet at school will be protected from inappropriate content by St. John’s Internet filter. During school hours, this filter will also prevent access to sites like Facebook or other sites that could distract students during class. This filter will only work while students are connected to St. John’s network. It is the parents responsibility to monitor their child’s Internet use at home. We encourage families to provide Internet filtering at home or install software to guard or monitor student use away from school.

Will the school teach students how to use, maintain, and update their own ipads?

St. John’s teachers and Technology Teacher will be able to assist students and show them how to use web tools required for class activities and projects. Any updates will be provided by our IT Department and will automatically occur.
